Welcome to the BT Blog
Where we Hope to Inform and Inspire
In July of this year, Dan and Viri were married at Sky Retreat in Purlear, NC. The setting was spectacular and the mountain air was teaming with love. While the setting was indeed gorgeous, the weather was not. No sooner were the couple outside, then the rain began and they went to plan B. So underneath the patio, Viri's soon-to-be father-in-law walked her down the aisle in front of 80 guests. The WeddingWhile Viri shared that she laughs when she thinks about it, her fondest memory of the ceremony was everyone running with their chairs to take cover when the rain started. Ultimately, their atmosphere was relaxed and chill and no one minded. The DressWhile Viri didn't have a specific vision, beyond looking beautiful and feeling comfortable, she ended up choosing something perfect for her. The belt and bling, the lace and train were her favorite aspects of the gown. "I loved working with BT and Kelly because she was so easy to work with. She was honest in her feedback and wasn’t there to sell you the most expensive gown. She was genuine and was simply trying to help me choose the dress that best fit me and my style" Congratulations to Dan and Viri! Bridal Traditions was so happy to have been part of your day!

Afton Nelson and Jamison Hiatt were married in August of 2021 in Charleston, South Carolina. "Jamison and I met at church when we were 9 years old! We were friends almost instantly (but I always had a little crush on him). I finally mustered the courage to ask him to Elkin High School's Homecoming dance in 2015 . We dated throughout high school until our senior year. After high school, Jamison made plans to serve a two-year mission in Chile for our church and I went to college." After serving his God, Jamison then decided to serve his country and decided to join the Navy. But first, these two got engaged. The WeddingDue to Covid and the Navy's timeline, the couple had a small, intimate and elegant ceremony at The Temple of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. Only parents, grandparents and family made up the guest list of ten (yes, 10). For those who weren't able to be there, the couple live-streamed a ring ceremony on their wedding website and during it, Jamison dropped the ring. Afton shared that it took everything she had not to burst out laughing. According to the couple, there were many "tiny miracles" that occurred leading up to their wedding, from figuring out the scheduling to Jamison's grandmother's ability to make it to the ceremony. Everything worked in their favor! The DressAt 5, Afton fell in love with Julie Andrews' wedding gown in The Sound of Music and continued to gravitate toward classic silhouettes, satin and simple elegance. Sure enough, even with an August wedding in Charleston, SC, she stuck with that choice and has no regrets. She looked incredible! "I’m a sucker for buttons! I LOVE the buttons on the back of the dress! It adds a vintage vibe to the dress. The bodice has an interesting neckline, which I think adds to the elegance of the dress. It’s simple without being boring." "No matter what dress I picked, I knew I wanted it to have sleeves. I wanted a dress that was modest without being matronly. Bridal Traditions went above and beyond to help me find the dress of my dreams. They even had extra fabric on hand to show me what the dress would look like with sleeves. Their service was excellent! They answered all my questions, helped me brainstorm solutions, and even made sure the dress was custom made to my specifications!" The bridesmaids also purchased their dresses from BT and we loved the mix of blues in the dresses and bouquets. We are so happy to have been a part of Afton and Jamison's day. Here's to many, many years of happiness!
*Photo credit: Emily Gibby Photography Instagram: @emilygibbyphotography As new arrivals come in, the skirts on our gowns get a lot of attention. But the top of a gown is often the deciding factor, because it leads to the bride's face and will be in more images from the day than, say, her hemline. The veil, hairpieces and clips, earrings and makeup are important, but the finishing touch is what frames a brides face and the bodice can make a difference. And then there are other considerations: > does the bride prefer sleeves? > is a V-neck flattering? > does the bride want something provocative or modest? > does she like her arms and neckline? > is it a seasonal wedding? And so on and so on! Bodice styles include: halter, plunging, strapless, spaghetti strap, bateau, sweetheart, scooped, sheer to name a few. There are many types of bodice and only a few are shown here, but you should be confident about trying on multiple styles before saying that you don't look good in one or another. We never run out of Surprised Bride Stories here at BT. Come see us!
