Where we Hope to Inform and Inspire
The CoupleAbi Hohman married Owen Kolseth at her family farm this summer of 2020. They met 10 years ago at church. She had a crush on him and they became friends, and then better friends. In 2015, Owen asked her out on their first date. She didn't get it. She was so certain that they were just going to be friends after 5 years, she sort of shrugged, so he asked her twice. They dated for two years, and he proposed in November of 2017 at the North Carolina Arboretum. They walked through the gardens until he found the perfect spot and he surprised her. She told us that it was "perfect." The Wedding Day"Our wedding was outdoors at my family’s pond. We stood on the gazebo as our family gathered around with the pond as the background. Initially, we invited about a hundred people, but having a wedding in the midst of a pandemic is very difficult. We had many people who were scared to gather with us due to the threat of COVID, despite the social distancing measures we put in place. We also had guests who had to travel from several states away and were worried. We certainly understood their concerns, but, of course, wished they could join us. We had about forty people total and were so happy to share this wonderful moment with the family and friends who were able to come." There were two themes in the day. One was subtle and included oak trees and acorns based on our initials, Owen and Abi Kolseth, OAK. "Our other, more prominent theme was Harry Potter. He is a Gryffindor and I am a Slytherin, so our colors were burgundy and hunter green respectively. We had wands for props in a few pictures. Each member of the wedding party had a ribbon on their bouquet or boutonniere to represent their specific house. We had green and red punch and mints, and our cake incorporated all the colors." For the OAK theme, the couple actually added dirt to an oak sapling that they planned to plant. It was sort of like the candle or sand ceremony, but special for them. The DressAbi describes herself a pretty modest person and did not want to be spilling out of her dress. After Owen proposed, she started sketching what she wanted and musing about options. What started as a dress with sleeves ended up being sleeveless and covered with lace for their June wedding. When she came to Bridal Traditions, we showed her options and she found her "dream dress." "As I had been looking at all things wedding, ads began popping up in social media. The first ad I ever saw for BT was a woman standing in the dress from my sketch. It was perfect. It had the sweetheart neckline with the lace that came up higher. It was simple and had the perfect sleeves. I began looking into BT and came as soon as I could get a day off to get my dress." We are so happy that she did. Abi also bought her veil and head band from us. Congratulations Abi and Owen! Thank you for letting us be a part of your day. Cheers to years and years of marriage, happiness, Harry Potter and your own bit of magic!
